Getting Crotchety Here

Do your pants ever look like this:
I've worn out the inside thigh area, again, on the only pants that fit me. My daughter discovered the tear last night.

"Mommy, are you going to buy a new pair of pants?"

(sigh) "Yes." But in my mind I was saying, "No! I don't want to buy another pair of plus-sized pants."

I've read in blog-land that we shouldn't wait until we lose the weight to buy flattering clothing for ourselves. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. "They" are right, but I loath shopping. This is what happened the last time I went shopping: click here. (And, yes, those are the same tan pants as above...note: October).

I have one other pair of pants (jeans), but they are too tight. My goal is to lose 5 pounds so I can breath in them then another 5 so I can move freely (strut instead of waddle). Maybe I can make these last until I get down to the next size where I have a few dusty pairs on the shelf waiting for me.

So, I took pictures of the too-tight jeans. I'm hoping these become my "before" photos. I can't believe I did this but I read photos are good measuring tools when the scale lies. It's also nice to see the difference (assuming there's a positive change).

Trying my best to hold in my stomach:

(Big Bottom Blogger, this one is in honor of your blog).
The End.

  1. If you lose five ounces a day for the next 208 days, you will have lost 65 pounds!

  2. OMG. You are courageous showing your buns of steel! I wouldn't subject anyone to my rear! Today I'm wearing a skirt. Thank goodness for big sheets of material.

I loved your comment about the M&Ms. I had to laugh, and immediately come over to commend you for eating the one ounce bag of treats when you could have eaten the other 5 lbs!!!

  3. Hi Gina! I get some of that wear on my pants too, I did even before kids when I weighed a lot less than I do now so it's not just something that happens when you're overweight ;). Considering it's the only pants you have that fit right now I'm sure you've worn them a lot.
You are brave for posting those pictures. And I can tell you will have a really flattering shape after you loose some weight.

Sorry for not commenting on your blog lately. I've been so busy with things and even though I do check in every now and then it's usually real quickly when I should be doing other things and I tell myself I will come back at a later time and comment....and then forget. After we move I will do better.

    Take care.

  4. Please don't take this the wrong way, but when I see that photo of your butt, I see *curves*. We of the no-butt persuasion can only dream of *curves.* (Unless, of course, you count the way my belly curves out away from my spine. :))

    Hang in there!

  5. Yes, I get wear on that exact same area of all my pants/capris. I can't imagine my thighs not touching. hhmm... maybe someday? Not sure on that one.

    Have a good weekend!

  6. I can relate to this. After I gained 50 lbs with my first pregnancy, I didn't want to shop for pants, it was depressing. I ended up picking up a few pairs at consignment shops to get me through until I lost the weight. My guess is that you don't want to spend the money on something or shop for new pants, but you have the right to look good while losing. Why not try a consignment shop or Target for a couple versatile pairs to get your through for now.

  7. Gina, I have two pairs of JEANS that this happened to when I was at my biggest. I even had my mom help me patch up the one pair. It didn't fix for long. :(

  8. Anonymous -- Mom, is that you? I think it's great what you wrote. It had me thinking about it since. It made me look at what I was about to eat differently.

(I want to comment more but have to relinquish the computer).

  9. I don't even buy clothes but it is more to do with $$ for me.

I do understand how you feel Gina but as What Not to Wear shows on their show, when you wear clothes that fit, it makes us look better & often times slimmer.

Also, the more uncomfortable we feel with oursleves, the more we say those negative things.. I know this personally... be good to yourself! :-)

I don't know if you want to do this but putting those pics on the fridge will be a constant remminder of your goal to lose weight. A very old trick of the trade but something to think about....

    You can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Okay, Anonymous, you are not my mom, but I still really like what you pointed out. "I can do 5 oz" keeps echoing in my head.

POD -- "buns of steel" ...er...I don't think anyone is going to be asking me to make a workout dvd anytime soon. Until then, I'll be under my own sheets of fabric.

Anna -- Hi! Thanks for your comments. I hope your move goes well, and that you can find a suitable place.

Thanks, Cammy! Me and my curves will continue hangin'.

Leah -- Hello! Yes, I think I could start a small fire with all thigh friction.

Karen -- Yes, I don't like shopping especially for pants. Maybe the selection is better than last October, but it seems like the cheap stores make such unflattering cuts (taper, pleats, too-big waistbands). Flattering pairs in nicer stores are more expensive, and I have a hard time spending that kind of money on myself. Your right, I do need to get something to tie me over. Thanks for stopping by.

AFG -- That's a good skill (being able to patch things up). I may be better off using that time to run around the track a few more times. lol

Jody -- pics on the fridge: that's a good idea. And, yes, nice-fitting clothes are slimming. Finding those is another matter. I feel defeated if I spend a lot on plus-sized clothing AND getting them tailored (more $$). I feel like I'm giving in to that size, and if I spend that much on clothes, I want to be able to wear them for a long time.

I saw a Cathy cartoon. She spoke about how much money she spends on gym membership to exercise the fat, money to massage the fat, money to clothe the fat, money to analyze the fat. I think it's her friend that says, "Well, if someone spent that kind of money on me, I wouldn't leave, either."

  11. You are brave and smart to take those pictures. I think that you are doing fine, and I totally understand about not wanting to buy a new pair of pants. BUT, it sounds like you need just one inexpensive pair right now, and just tell yourself - "the minute these get too big I'm throwing them in the trash because I'm never going to wear them again."

    Stay strong!

  12. I have also been in that place where I had nothing that fit and really, really did not want to buy bigger pants. Sigh. But I can't stand the tightness so I would say go find something inexpensive for now and just toss or donate them when they are too big!

  13. Well, it looks to me like your body likes to put weight in good places :)

I sent you an email. I have a few things that might tide you over if you'd like me to pass 'em along.
