Here a Doc, There a Doc, Everywhere a Doc Doc

I mentioned before that I have been putting off going to the doctors' for several years. I told myself when I turned 40 that I would get all the necessities done as a gift to myself. Now I'm 41 (yeah, a little late, but I did get checked for melanoma - negative).

So, this is doctor week. Yesterday, I saw my primary care physician for a physical (sans pelvic) and blood work. Today I saw the gynecologist. Tomorrow I'm having a CT scan of my heart (heart disease runs in my family). Thursday I'm having an ultrasound (ordered by my gynecologist). She also wants me to get a mammogram - my first.

Thank you, everybody, for your suggestions for what tests I should ask for. I wrote them all down, and they were very helpful.

And, yes, Leah, the dentist is soon on my list. :) I am taking my son tomorrow, though.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (Is there anything you are putting off?)

(P.S. Okay, I know the picture doesn't really have anything to do with doctors directly. It just reminded me of how we support each other here in the blogging community and also how I had great experiences so far this week with my care-givers - they actually gave a care).

  1. Glad to hear that you are going to the doctors :-) I just finally went to the dentist after a long hiatus. It wasn't that bad! I did not have any cavities:-) Have a great day!

  2. Good for you! I just had my first mammogram, only cause I'm a hypochondriac and was convinced I had breast cancer.... with no symptoms whatsoever. It wasn't bad at all! I even imagined how I would "break it to my family".. you know: the news of my cancer.

  3. Staci-that's great news. My teeth are so sensitive. I can handle most pain, but when a tooth nerve is poked...oh, my mouth hurts just thinking about it.

Amy - How can we not be hypochondriacs when we hear about others without symptoms, being young, etc. end up with it?

  5. Good for you for taking charge and getting caught up on your tests! I did the same thing about this time last year and it was such a relief to get it behind me!

    Love the pic...and the sentiment!

  6. i know it was a big step, but you have faced these doctor goals seriously head on - good for you! i'm sure you will find all is well and it will be wonderful to have that piece of mind. hopefully when you are due for all these check-ups again, it will be a bit easier for you.

  7. I hope all your checkups come out clean. Just think how proud you'll be of yourself for taking care of those appointments.

I put off cleaning up my craft area until it's a huge mess. Oh...and getting my eating in order to lose weight more consistently. *sigh* Little by little. Springtime always motivates me to get things done, and I'm working on a list and things are getting done. :)

    Have a nice day !

  8. Good for you, Gina! I did the same thing in January when I decided to start losing weight. I had had a "prescription" on my fridge for over a year that I was supposed to use to get a mammogram! I don't know why it's so easy to put off taking care of ourselves. Like you, I finally just got it all done at once - 3 doctors in one week! Im supposed to go get my blood work checked again to see if my eating plan has lowered my cholesterol numbers... guess I should make that appointment... I'm anxious to see if they've lowered but I'M STILL dragging my feet to make the appointment. It's such a little 'job' but feels like so a pain to do! Silly, huh? ~ Angie
