5 at 5 Day 1 Report

I did it! Up at 5. I walked the 3 miles in one hour as planned. It was AMAZING. Dark. Quiet. 18 degrees. Time to think. View was great. Christmas lights lingered.

I was feeling so elated at the end of my walk, then, boom, down I go. I slipped on a patch of black ice at the base of my driveway. Slammed my left knee into the road. I had two layers of pants and still managed to scrape the skin. Felt like a fat fool.

I sat in the road begging God to not let this slow me down. I was able to get up and walk back in. It's hurting. Elated feeling gone.

Please send me some good vibes and prayers (and I'll go get the motrin and ice pack). Thank you.

  1. I am so excited by your walk and so dismayed by your fall. But, you know, I think this is a test of your resolution. Falling is part of life (especially in January!) Getting back up again is key! I hope you're okay!

  2. Girl I'm so sorry you fell down! Keep it elevated and put lots of ice on it.

Last winter I feel and hurt my knee really bad going into my office right on the busiest street in town. I'm sure everyone seen my no-so-graceful fall. It was highly humiliating. It took my knee quite awhile to get back to normal.

Lots of positive thoughts and prayers coming your way.

  5. HEY, Gina! Congrats on that walk!!! DO NOT let it get you down! If it is just a bruise, move on. I can't tell you how many times I have walked into things in the gym or dropped a weight plate on my toe.. I just move on. I get up the next day & there is a big ole bruise.. battle wound, that is all. It does not stop me from moving on. One morn when I was jogging outside, I tripped on a sprinkler going around a corner & down I went.... scraped up my knee but I continued on... it was just a scrape & not enough to stop me!!!

Make sure there is no injury per se, but if not, a bruise is no big deal!!! Maybe look for shoes that grip more or I guess having to be very careful in that crazed weather back there!!!! YIKES!

  6. Thank you all. Your comments and support have lifted me. I think I may walk away with just a big ugly bruise and scrape. It still aches when I walk but should be good enough for tomorrow.

    And Sewunicorn, welcome! Please join!

    Happy New Year!

  7. Congratulations on getting up and walking. I'm soooo sorry about the fall - that has happened to me too. Usually it's turned out to be just a bit sore but not badly injured - I hope yours is the same!

    Take care,
    Diane
